New iPhone SE to launch in 2022 with 5G and faster processer – Kuo

Apple’s current iPhone SE could be getting a refresh in 2022. As per a new report from TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next-gen iPhone SE will feature 5G connectivity and an upgraded processer. The updated entry-level iPhone is slated for release in the first half of 2022.

5G-enabled iPhone SE slated for release in 2022

Kuo has said that the upcoming model will sport the same design as the current iPhone SE. However, it will feature a couple of big upgrades including a new processer and 5G support. “The new 1H22 SE will have a similar form factor design as the existing SE, with the major differences being 5G support and processor upgrades,” says Kuo in a research note to investors.

The Apple analyst has previously said there are no design changes expected in the new model, and it will have the same screen size as the current variant on sale. This means the device will feature a home button, bezels, and no-notch. The display will have an LCD panel, unlike high-end iPhones which feature OLED panels. This is a bit of disappointment for customers interested in purchasing the updated entry-level iPhone as it will continue to have a dated design compared to iPhone 12.

Another analyst, Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), recently claimed that the Cupertino tech giant will be skipping a notch-based display for iPhone SE, and will move straight to a punch-hole cut out for the front-facing camera with an edge-to-edge 6.1-inch display by 2023.

The new device could be ideal for consumers who want a phone with 5G-connectivity without spending a huge amount of money. A 5G-enabled iPhone SE could also allow Apple to tap into the mid-tier 5G smartphone market – a smart that is currently dominated by Android phones.

The second-generation iPhone SE was launched in April 2020. Powered by the A13 Bionic chip, the entry-level iPhone does not shy away from offering excellent performance. Offered in Black, White, and PRODUCT(RED) color options, the device features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, Touch ID Home button, Apple Pay support, wireless charging, Wi-Fi 6, Gigabit-class LTE, Dual SIM support with eSIM, and more.
