The iPhone Dev Team just upgraded redsn0w to version 0.9.6b1 to support jailbreaking iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1/4.0 [MC and non-MC models as well]. As promised, here’s our easy to use guide on how to jailbreak iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1.
- Download iOS 4.0 or 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G. Place it on your desktop for easy access.
- Download redsn0w 0.9.6b1. Available only for Mac currently.
- Download and install iTunes 10.
- Now connect your iPod Touch 2G to your computer and using iTunes, upgrade to iOS 4.0/4.1 This can be done using iTunes as described here.
- Now that you have upgraded to iOS 4.0/4.1, you’ll have to jailbreak it by using either iOS 4.0/4.1 (whichever you have installed on your iPod Touch 2G) with redsn0w 0.9.6b1. Run redsn0w and click browse and point it to the iOS 4.1/4.0 firmware you downloaded.

- Click Next. You’ll be given some options. Just select Install Cydia and battery percentage. Multitasking and home screen wallpaper can be enabled later through a Cydia app.
- Turn off your iPod Touch and connect it to the computer. We’ll have to put it in DFU mode now. To do this, hold the power button for 3 seconds, and then hold the home button too without releasing the power button for 10 seconds. Then release the power button but keep holding the home button until redsn0w starts doing its thing.
- Once redsn0w is done and the iPod Touch reboots, it will be jailbroken.
- If you want to enable/disable multitasking or background wallpapers, use zToggle. We don’t recommend it though as it will make your iPod sluggish.

I followed the steps perfectly but still no luck i get stuck on the part where it says waiting for reboot. so i let it sit for about 2 hours now and nothing has happend, any ideas?
Try rebooting it manually by holding the power and home button to shut down and then restart. If it doesn’t work, retry the whole process after restoring the firmware.

Hi i did every thing it always gets stuck at “Waiting fot reboot”..every single time try it about 15 times .. i have a feeling its because i jailbreak it at 3.1.2 with spirit..so does spirit not like Redsn0w or something

I had the same problem. The second try I turned off itunes altogether from the beginning and it worked. I think it interferes with the installation
hey i iave an ipod touch 3g mc model running on 4.1 IOS and when i do the redsnow 6 something beta 6 i put it into dfu mode but then it just stops there and then doesnt do anything what do i do to continue the jailbreaking process so it works :) also i did try to manually jailbreak it

I have an ipod touch 2g mc model. I have followed the info times and i get stuck at waiting for reboot. It does not do anything just shows me that on the screen. I left it for 1 hour and still nothing. What is wrong? What can i do to fix this so it will work for me?

Same problem as Yasir. I have tried everything: un-pluging, keep holding down home, restoring settings… Is this the only jailbreak for 2g 4.1 mc?
redsnow doesn’t work on ipos touch mc models (only non mc models)
u guys (and many others, incl me) gotta wait for the shattered jailbreak to come ^^
SHAtter/greenpois0n only supports A4 devices (ex: iPa.d iPod Touch 4g, iPhone 4) so you might as well use limera1n. (came out on 9 of october)
And this is 0.9.6 *BETA 1* (it’s a beta. wait for the next couple betas to come out, and the bugs will most likely be fixed.)
But I’m warning you, Limera1n uses an unstable untether. (As stated by the chronic dev team) so use it at your own risk.
greenpois0n release has been postponed because of geohot’s limera1n exploit, they’re using the same one (but a more stable version) to protect the original greenpois0n/SHAtter exploit.
