The MacBook Pro PROLED XDR wallpaper is available to download in full resolution, with one file sized for the 16-inch MacBook Pro and another for a Studio Display. It follows the October 28 announcement of the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, the new touchscreen model.
Designer Basic Apple Guy built the two files from Apple’s 3D model of the laptop, upscaling and resizing the artwork until the official version is available. He lists one download for the 16-inch MacBook Pro and one for the 27-inch Studio Display.
The design is oversized PRO lettering drawn with fine vertical silver-blue lines on a black background, with small yellow, orange and red accents. It replaces a MacBook Pro wallpaper that stayed in use for nearly three years.
The MacBook Pro PROLED XDR wallpaper comes in two sizes
The 16-inch MacBook Pro file measures 3456 x 2234 pixels and weighs about 10 MB, so it may take a moment on a slow connection. For Studio Display, the PNG is 5120 x 2880, which matches the 5K panel and holds nearly twice as many pixels.
There is no separate file for the 14-inch model, so owners of the smaller laptop would use the 16-inch version. Both are static images, so they will not animate or switch with Light and Dark Mode.
To apply either one, save the PNG to your Downloads folder and open System Settings. Choose Wallpaper, add the image from that folder, then select it as your desktop picture. On a Mac with several displays, you can set a different wallpaper on each one from the same Wallpaper pane.
Black backgrounds suit the PROLED XDR display best
Most of the artwork sits on black, which suits the new panel. The PROLED XDR display stacks two self-illuminating pixel layers, which gives deep blacks without blooming or halos. Apple lists a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and up to 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness.
A MacBook Pro with the Liquid Retina XDR display can use the same files, though its panel reaches a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness. The gap between the two panels is broken down in our PROLED XDR vs Liquid Retina XDR comparison.
Pre-orders for the touchscreen MacBook Pro opened October 28 in 30 countries and regions, including the U.S. Prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch model with M5 Pro and $3,399 for the 16-inch model. The first units arrive Friday, November 6.
