macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 Are Out with Security Fixes

Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, two security updates for Macs that are not on macOS Golden Gate 27. Apple calls them important security fixes recommended for all users but has not named a single fix.

Apple went straight to release candidates with no earlier betas, which is the usual pattern for point updates on older macOS versions. Release candidate 1 arrived on October 6, the second on October 13 and the third on October 19, the same day as the macOS Golden Gate 27.2 release candidate. Install either update from System Settings, then General, then Software Update.

macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 security update

The last update fixed a CoreGraphics bug that may have been exploited

macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 arrived on September 28, the same day as macOS Golden Gate 27.0.1. The security document for macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 lists one CoreGraphics fix, tracked as CVE-2026-86950 and credited to Meta Product Security.

It is an out-of-bounds write that could lead to arbitrary code execution when a Mac processes a maliciously crafted file. Apple says it is aware of a report that the bug may have been used in an extremely sophisticated attack on specific targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 27.

Apple does not list macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 or macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 on its security releases page yet, and it normally publishes the fix details after the final versions ship. The same cycle includes iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2 for iPhone and iPad owners who stay on iOS 26.

Intel Macs depend on these updates for security fixes

macOS Golden Gate 27 requires Apple silicon, so Intel Macs stay on macOS Tahoe or macOS Sequoia depending on their age. Apple silicon Macs that choose to stay on an older release get the same fixes.

macOS Tahoe 26 runs on the Mac Studio (2022 and later), iMac (2020 and later), Mac Pro (2019 and later), Mac mini (2020 and later), MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) and MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later).

macOS Sequoia 15 runs on the Mac Studio (2022 and later), iMac (2019 and later), Mac Pro (2019 and later), Mac mini (2018 and later), MacBook Air (2020 and later), MacBook Pro (2018 and later) and iMac Pro (2017 and later). The updates follow macOS Tahoe 26.7 from September 14.
