Apple Adds a Made for iPhone Duo Badge to the App Store

Apple is adding a Made for iPhone Duo badge to App Store product pages so buyers can see which apps are built for the foldable’s two displays. Apps optimized for the iPhone Duo carry it across the storefront, with the first wave arriving when the phone goes on sale Friday, October 23.

Apple announced the badge in a Thursday newsroom update but the company did not show what it looks like. New editorial collections for iPhone Duo apps and games go live on the App Store the same day, and Apple says more app updates will follow throughout the year.

The Badge Lets You Check an App Before You Download It

Apple says both displays on the iPhone Duo share the same aspect ratio, so apps move from the outer display to the inner display and scale proportionally. The badge marks the apps that use the extra room, including Netflix, Prime Video, Zoom, Paramount+, NYT Cooking, Yelp, Lyft and United Airlines. Apple’s list of iPhone Duo launch apps runs well past those names.

Netflix keeps Clips on the outer display and carries on across the inner display when you open the phone. Prime Video plays a title on the top half of a partially folded screen with cast details on the bottom half. Zoom shows shared content and other participants at the same time, and Split View puts two apps next to each other on an iPhone for the first time.

Several of the apps Apple has lined up are not ready for launch day:

  • Microsoft Word and Outlook arrive in the coming weeks with a desktop-class layout
  • Zenless Zone Zero gets its iPhone Duo update next month
  • UnGodly launches on the App Store in November
  • DoorDash adds a larger delivery map later this year

Optimized Apps Can Still Ship With Bugs on Day One

The Verge’s Nilay Patel found bugs in some optimized apps during his iPhone Duo testing, and Instagram was one of them. Early iPhone Duo reviews also pointed to third-party apps that had not been updated for the foldable.

Developers can adapt with new APIs in the iOS 27.1 SDK, and apps built on standard SwiftUI and UIKit components adjust to each display on their own. Apple has opened App Store submissions for optimized apps. Device Hub in Xcode 27.1 lets developers open, close, fold and rotate a simulated iPhone Duo to test every pose.

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, or $83.29 a month for 24 months, and it goes on sale Friday with limited quantities available on a walk-in basis. Apple says more than 2,000 developers have attended more than 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities, with more planned in London, Mexico City, Montreal, Paris and Toronto.
