OpenAI is rolling out three upgrades to ChatGPT Voice starting today. The voice mode can now run on OpenAI’s GPT-6 models, work with plugins for email, calendar, and Slack, and connect to ChatGPT Work on the web and mobile.
They build on the listen-while-speaking design OpenAI introduced with GPT Live in July, which lets you talk over ChatGPT mid-answer and see visual answers on screen while it speaks. GPT Live launched on iOS, Android, and the web with two versions, GPT-Live-1 for paid users and GPT-Live-1-mini for free users.
ChatGPT Voice Can Now Run on All Three GPT-6 Models
ChatGPT Voice can now be powered by any of OpenAI’s three GPT-6 models.
- GPT-6 Astra is the most capable model and has been out for a few weeks.
- GPT-6 Sol is the medium model, upgraded to GPT-6 this week.
- GPT-6 Luna is the small model and arrived alongside GPT-6 Sol.
OpenAI launched GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna with API prices 50 percent lower than the GPT-5.6 rates they replace. Both bring the training methods behind GPT-6 Astra to cheaper, faster tiers, and both are rolling out in ChatGPT Work and Codex. In the API, GPT-6 Sol is priced at $2 per million input tokens and GPT-6 Luna at $0.10. Voice conversations now sit on the same model family as those two tools.
Plugins and ChatGPT Work Now Connect to ChatGPT Voice
Plugins now work with ChatGPT Voice, including integrations for email, calendar, and Slack. A spoken request can pull from the same connected apps that ChatGPT Work already uses, so you can ask about your schedule or an inbox without switching to the keyboard.
OpenAI’s plugin system has been growing since spring. A Codex update in April added support for more than 90 plugins that connect to tools like GitHub, Jira, Slack, and CI platforms, and Slack is one of the apps now available by voice.
ChatGPT Voice also works with ChatGPT Work on the web and mobile. ChatGPT Work is OpenAI’s cloud-connected agent system, similar to Codex on the desktop but available in more places. It reads data from your apps, runs multi-step workflows, and keeps working in the background. You can start a task on your phone, schedule it to run on your Mac, and check on it from any device.
Voice on the Mac could already direct tasks in ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI brought ChatGPT Voice back to the desktop app on July 23, 2026, and it can start, check, and steer tasks running in Chat, Work, and Codex by voice.
