RadarScope, the weather radar app used heavily by meteorologists and storm chasers, has picked up full CarPlay support in its version 5.7 update. Drivers can now pull live radar data onto the car’s built-in screen instead of glancing at a phone propped on the dashboard.
RadarScope is available on the App Store for iPhone, and the CarPlay support ships as part of the same update.
The CarPlay Version Overlays Live Radar on Your Route
The update lets drivers choose between MRMS composite radar, single-site radar, or satellite imagery, then lay that data directly over the active navigation route. That makes it possible to see what a storm looks like along the road ahead instead of switching between a map app and a weather app.
Single-site radar also switches automatically as the car moves. RadarScope tracks the nearest station and swaps the feed to it in real time, so the picture stays current without the driver picking a new site by hand.
This feature is especially useful for storm chasers, since routes, warnings, and reports all appear on the same map as the radar.

RadarScope Is Built for Meteorologists, Not Casual Users
RadarScope pulls high-resolution data from more than 300 radar sites, and its listing on the App Store carries an AMS award for weather visualization. The app targets meteorologists, storm spotters, and public safety officials as much as it targets everyday weather watchers, which is different territory from a general-purpose app like CARROT Weather or the built-in Weather app on iOS.
Our Take
RadarScope landing on CarPlay closes an odd gap for an app built around exactly the situation of watching weather while moving. Storm chasers and spotters have used the iPhone version propped on a dashboard mount for years, so getting that same radar picture onto the car’s own screen was long overdue.
