Spotify’s desktop app for Mac receives major upgrade with customizable navigation

Music streaming giant Spotify has rolled out a major update to its desktop app for Mac with a new navigation interface. The update features a new “Your Library sidebar” that is fully customizable, making it easier for users to access their Spotify collection.

In a blog post, Spotify stated that the new sidebar “improves the collection and retrieval of all types of content, bringing new features to desktop that you’re already familiar with in the mobile app.” The new sidebar is designed to be more user-friendly, with the ability to customize the order of the content in the sidebar and pin favorite content.

One of the new features included in the update is “flexible sizing,” which allows users to hover over and click on the right edge of the sidebar to drag it to their preferred width. The sidebar can also be fully expanded or collapsed using the arrow button at the top of the “Your Library” heading.

The new sidebar lets users access all of the content from their Spotify library, including playlists, artists, albums, podcasts, and more. Spotify also added filters and sort options for your collection, such as recent, recently added, alphabetical, creator, and custom order.

Moreover, the sidebar has a search function that enables users to find specific content easily. Users can also pin their favorite library items, including playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts, for quick access. The new sidebar also shows art covers for a more engaging browsing experience.

Spotify users can choose between a compact library layout, which removes art covers, and a regular view with the sidebar fully expanded. In the expanded library view, users have options for either a list view or a grid view, with the latter showing larger art covers.

However, one drawback of the new update is that users can no longer view their library page in the main browsing interface. Despite this, the new update offers users a more customizable and intuitive navigation interface that makes it easier to manage their music library.

The new Spotify interface has started rolling out on the Mac, Windows, and web platforms. Users can access the new features by updating their desktop app to the latest version. With this new update, Spotify is aiming to provide users with a more personalized and seamless music streaming experience across all devices.
