Tiny Computers is a $3.99 app that turns the iPhone Duo into ten miniature retro computers. Fold the phone into tabletop mode and the screen sits above a working keyboard, the way an old desk machine would.
The studio behind it, Fountain Interactive Ltd, lists the app on the App Store for release on October 23, the day the iPhone Duo goes on sale. The developer calls it a museum of tiny computers, and it arrives alongside the first wave of apps ready for the iPhone Duo at launch.
Tabletop Mode Puts the Screen Above and a Working Keyboard Below
Tiny Computers was designed around the two displays of the iPhone Duo. In tabletop mode, each computer runs on the upper display and the keyboard sits on the lower one, so typing happens where a keyboard would normally be. With the phone closed, you browse the collection and pick your next exhibit.
Each computer comes with clicking keyboards, working command lines, paint programs, floppy disks and familiar desktop games. You can open windows, write a note or draw something small, and each computer hides files and secret commands to find. Every computer’s game also has a medal to earn, and Windows crashes every so often too.
The app joins a growing list of small apps built around the fold. Toastie has you close the phone to toast a sandwich, and Hinge Angle Meter reads the hinge as a live angle gauge.
The Collection Runs From the Macintosh to Windows XP
The ten computers are inspired by these machines:
- Macintosh
- Commodore 64
- IBM PC
- Amiga 500
- Windows 95
- ThinkPad
- iMac G3
- iBook G3
- PowerBook G4
- Windows XP
Four of the ten are Apple machines, from the original Macintosh to the PowerBook G4.
All ten come in the single purchase, with no ads, subscriptions or in-app purchases, and the App Store privacy label lists no data collected.
iPhone and iPad Owners Get the Same Ten Computers With Simulated Perspective
Every computer still works without an iPhone Duo. On iPhone and iPad, the app shows each machine with simulated perspective, using the same keyboards and games. On iPhone you turn the phone sideways and switch between the screen and the keyboard, and on iPad the whole computer fits on the display.
Tiny Computers is a 634.6 MB download rated 4+ in the Entertainment category. It requires iOS 27 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 27 or later on iPad, and Family Sharing covers up to six people. The listing also shows versions for Mac, which needs macOS 27 and an M1 chip or later, and for Apple Vision, which needs visionOS 27.
