We hope you followed our step by step guide on jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 on your iOS device with Redsn0w. Now, there is a new way to better that tethered jailbreak of your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad on iOS 4.2.1 by making it boot a lot quicker than before. Since there is no ETA on an easy, user friendly way to make your jailbroken device untethered at this moment, this one should come in pretty handy. Just follow the following easy instructions on how to do it on a Mac OS computer.
Download the following files to your computer and place them in a folder named Pwnage:
● RedSn0w 0.9.6rc7 (Download HERE)
● Your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad firmware IPSW. (Download HERE)
Now extract the RedSn0w 0.9.6rc7 archive to reveal its contents.
Launch Terminal from: Applications > Utilities folder.
Input the following command for devices with the new bootrom:
open ~/Desktop/Pwnage/redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc7/redsn0w.app –args -j -i ~/Desktop/Pwnage/iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw
Input the following command for devices with the old bootrom (iPod 2G, iPhone 3GS):
open ~/Desktop/Pwnage/redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc7/redsn0w.app –args -j -o -i ~/Desktop/Pwnage/iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw
**NOTE: remember to change the filename to the filename of the IPSW you downloaded in Step 1.
Finally, RedSn0w will open, instruct you on placing your iPhone into DFU mode (if it isn’t already) and boot your device.
Thats it, enjoy a faster tethered boot on your jailbroken iOS 4.2.1 device! If you run into any issues with this guide, let us know in the comments below and we will try our best to help you out.
