Second-generation AirPods Pro rumored to release in the first half of 2021

A new report suggests that Apple intends to launch second-generation AirPods Pro in the first half of 2021. The report says that the new AirPods Pro will feature a redesigned charging case.

There have been a few reports indicating a release date in 2021 for the AirPods Pro. Users might witness a pretty dramatic design overhaul, excluding the protruding ear stems that allowed the original AirPods to be recognized instantly.AirPods Pro Year of the Ox

There is still some confusion as to whether Apple will upgrade the AirPods Pro or introduce a lite, cheaper version of the earbuds. From the report via Digitimes:

Winbond is also expected to be among the NOR flash suppliers for Apple’s next-generation AirPods Pro slated for launch later in the first half of this year, the sources indicated. The Taiwan-based chipmaker will be running its NOR flash production lines at nearly full capacity utilization during the six-month period.

There has been another report brought forth by a Japanese blog MacOtakara that claims that the new AirPods Pro will be released in April along with a third-generation iPhone SE. The report did not offer much insight about the new AirPods Pro except for claiming that the wireless charging case will have slightly tweaked dimensions compared to the original.

Chinese suppliers have told us that the AirPods Pro (2nd generation), which will be released in April 2021 at the same time as the iPhone SE (3rd generation), will have a new design for the charging case, which will remain 21mm thick, but will be 46mm high and 54mm wide, sources said.

We do not know the details of the head unit, etc.

AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro were introduced in November 2019. They feature an in-ear design with shorter stems below the ear, and three sizes of soft flexible silicon tips added in the box. AirPods Pro have many features like noise cancellation, water and sweat resistance, and improved sound quality, compared to the regular and cheaper AirPods.

Prior rumors suggested that the Cupertino tech giant intends to upgrade the standard AirPods in the first half of 2021 giving it a similar design to AirPods Pro. However, AirPods would be without noise cancellation, which would give it a lower price point.

The current-existing line-up includes AirPods Pro with a wireless charging case for $249 and AirPods with either a wired charging case for $159 or a wireless charging case for $199.
