Apple announces Magic Keyboard availability, ships next week

Apple has announced that its new Magic keyboard for iPad Pro is now available for pre-order, and will ship to customers starting next week. The Magic Keyboard is compatible with 11 and 12.9 inch iPad Pro models. The floating design of the new Magic Keyboard claims to deliver a great and smooth typing experience thanks to the usage of scissor mechanism-based backlit keys, and trackpad. .

Paired with an iPad Pro, it is marketed as a computer, giving users the freedom of mobility and versatile functionality. It attaches to the iPad magnetically and provides durable protection for the device. The floating cantilever can be adjusted with an angle up to 130 degrees. For security, the Magic Keyboard automatically disables iPad Pro’s microphone, when it is closed.

The new attachable keyboard is lightweight and has backlit keys. The keys use a scissor mechanism and provide 1mm travel. Supported by iPad OS 13.4, it has a built in trackpad with support for multi-touch gestures. In addition, the Magic Keyboard has click-anywhere functionality for easy cursor control, smooth navigation and accurate adjustments.The multi-touch functionality allows users to work on the trackpad without lifting their fingers, and the pointer converts to highlight UI as users moves their fingers.

Magic Keyboard also has a USB-C port that supports pass-through charging, while keeping iPad Pro’s USB-C port vacant to be used with external accessories and displays.

With its beautiful floating design, backlit keys and trackpad, the Magic Keyboard adds more to the iPad Pro. The keyboard supports both 2018 iPad Pro and 2020 iPad Pro models. However, the added functionality and benefits do not come cheap. Price starts from $299 for 11-inch Magic Keyboard, and $349 for 12-inch Magic Keyboard. At the time of writing, Apple lists shipping times between 1-2 weeks.

Apple is still selling the Smart Keyboard Folio too, which is available for $179 and $199 for 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, respectively.

Apple also announced the much awaited iPhone SE today, starting from $399.
