The New 27-inch iMac
To deliver a comprehensive experience, Apple has upgraded the new iMac with all the requirements of today’s fast-paced consumers. Users can use the new and faster machine for everyday tasks, creative projects, and others in a more efficient manner.
Here is a list of all new features in the 2020 27-inch iMac.
Up to 10-Core Processors
For different needs, Apple has introduced three variants of the new iMac with varying numbers of cores of the 10th generation Intel processors.
- 6- and 8-core processors for professional-level performance.
- 10-core processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 5.0GHz for professionals who wish to push the iMac “even further”.
- Up to 65 percent more plug-ins in Logic Pro X.
- Up to 40 percent faster 8K ProRes transcode in Final Cut Pro X.
- Up to 35 percent faster rendering with Arnold in Autodesk Maya.
- Up to 25 percent faster build time in Xcode.
More Memory Capacity and Storage
Next-Generation AMD Graphics
AMD’s latest RDNA graphics chip is designed to deliver faster and more power efficient experience. For the first time, the new iMac offers 16GB memory options for pro apps users which is twice the video memory capacity of its predecessor.
Users will able to edit multiple streams of 4K video, play graphics-intensive games, and more. In comparison to previous-generation 27-inch iMac, the new machine is up to 50% faster:
- Up to 55 percent faster rendering in Maxon Cinema 4D ProRender.
- Up to 50 percent faster demo fly-through in Unity Editor.
- Up to 45 percent faster performance in “Total War: Three Kingdoms.”
- Up to 30 percent faster timeline rendering in Final Cut Pro X.
Apple T2 Security Chip
Apple has equipped the new iMac with its second-generation silicon, T2 Security Chip to provide the “most secure storage and boot process”. The T2 chip’s storage controller ensures on-the-fly data encryption for content stored on the SSD and the chip also checks for tampering with the software during the boot process.
New Retina 5K Display
Apple has introduced the nano-texture glass of the Pro Display XDR, on the new machine. The low reflectivity of the glass and less glare improves viewing in different lighting conditions such as indirect sunlight or a room with poor or bright lighting.
With new True Tone technology, the immersive Retina 5K display on the new iMac is designed to automatically adjust the color temperature of the display to match users’ ambient lighting.
Improved Camera, Speakers, and Mics
Now users can video chat with family, friends, or colleagues on improved FaceTime HD camera with 1080p resolution with enhanced tone mapping, exposure control, and face detection in the T2 Security Chip. With speakers, T2 Security Chip delivers variable EQ for improved balance, deeper bass, and higher fidelity.
A new studio-quality microphone system allows users to capture high-quality sound for various purposes like recording a podcast, voice memos, FaceTime calls, and more.
