Apple released visionOS 27 beta 5 to developers today, the fifth developer seed since the software’s announcement at WWDC on June 8. At this stage of the beta cycle, no significant user-facing changes are expected; Apple’s focus has moved from feature development to bug fixes and performance improvements.
The cadence has been roughly two weeks between betas since June, with beta 4 wave arriving on July 20. Beta 5 landing in mid-August aligns with Apple’s typical pattern of accelerating release frequency as a fall launch approaches, while the substance of each update gets lighter. Public beta versions should follow within a day or two if Apple holds to its usual schedule.
visionOS 27’s Siri upgrade is the headline feature: a significantly more capable version of Siri that can answer questions about anything the wearer is looking at, appearing as a repositionable orb in the virtual market rather than the fixed overlay from previous versions. Siri AI is launching in English later this year.
Other additions include curved window layouts in Safari, Freeform, and Apple TV that wrap content around the user’s field of view, Web Environment support for 360-degree immersive browsing experiences built by developers, and the ability to convert panorama photos into spatial environments. A new Icelandic Thórsmörk environment joins the built-in options, featuring mountains, glaciers, and the northern lights. Apple also claims wireless performance improvements, with supported networks delivering speeds up to three times faster than before.
Almost all visionOS 27 features run on both the original M2 Vision Pro and the M5 model released last fall, including Siri AI itself. The exception is voice customization, which lets users adjust the expressivity and pace of Siri’s voice. That feature depends on Apple’s AFM 3 Core Advanced on-device AI model, which requires M5-class hardware and will not be available on M2 Vision Pro units.
With beta 5 in place and a fall release still several weeks out, Apple has meaningful runway to resolve performance issues before shipping. For Vision Pro owners who have watched the device’s software mature through a difficult stretch of slow-sales discourse, visionOS 27 is the most feature-dense update the platform has received since launch, and Siri AI addresses the most obvious gap in the original experience.
