Apple Watch Series 12 Drops to $439.99 on Amazon

Amazon has started discounting the Apple Watch Series 12 within days of its launch, cutting $10 off select configurations. The watch hasn’t been out long enough for a typical seasonal sale, so this is Amazon adjusting price on its own rather than following an Apple promotion.

Amazon is rotating finishes and band colors, so the specific configuration on sale changes day to day rather than staying fixed on one color. As of publishing, the 42mm GPS + Cellular model in Space Gray Aluminum with a Navy Blue Sport Band is $489.99, and the 46mm GPS model in Black Aluminum with a Black Sport Band is $439.99.

Apple Watch Series 12 Checks Your Heart Rate Every Five Seconds

The Apple Watch Series 12 centers on what Apple calls the Health Sensing System, a rebuilt sensor stack paired with the new S11 chip. Larger, more power-efficient green LEDs on the optical sensor let it check your heart rate every five seconds all day, not just during workouts, and Apple added a dedicated heart rate complication so you can glance at your current reading right on the watch face.

Heart rate variability tracking got a similar boost, now measured up to 24 times more often than before. Apple splits that into two views: recovery HRV for day to day stress and recovery signals, and overall HRV for a broader read on cardiovascular health. A new daytime vitals view sits alongside the existing overnight vitals, so a dip in your numbers can show up before it ever reaches your sleep data.

Readiness Turns Your Vitals Into a Single Morning Score

Readiness pulls your recent training load, vitals, activity, and sleep score into one number from 0 to 10, paired with a plain-language recommendation: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It. It isn’t static either. A hard workout or a rough night’s sleep shifts the score in real time as new data comes in.

Apple built the scoring model using data from its Heart and Movement Study, working with exercise scientists and physicians. The Apple Watch Series 12 also picked up the most accurate step tracking Apple has shipped, using a rebuilt pedometer model with new machine learning algorithms for better distance accuracy on indoor walks and runs.

Battery and Charging Both Improved Despite More Sensing

Everyday battery life holds at up to 24 hours despite the more frequent sensing, and workout battery life improved to up to 10 hours on an outdoor workout, a 25 percent jump over the previous generation. Charging got faster as well, with 15 minutes on the charger now delivering up to 12 hours of extra battery, 50 percent more than before.

The case now uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is 60 percent tougher than the glass on the previous generation, and the aluminum lineup adds dark bronze, black, and light gold finishes alongside the familiar market gray.
