Deck-Man is a $4.99 music player that turns the iPhone Duo into a portable cassette player. You open the phone to pick an album, slide the tape into the deck, and close the phone to start playback. The app comes from Squircle Apps LLP, the developer behind the LookUp English dictionary app, and it is on the App Store now.
It went by the working name Duo-man before launch, and the developer’s other apps include Movie Buzz, a movie tracker, and Zones, a time zone converter. Version 1.0 arrived on October 15, and version 1.0.2, a bug fix update, shipped on October 24.
Apple’s launch-eve list of iPhone Duo apps included Deck-Man among the indie picks, next to Netflix, Zoom and Asphalt Legends.
Closing the iPhone Duo is the play button
Deck-Man shows the albums in your library as cassette tapes. You browse them with the phone open, load one into the player, and fold the iPhone Duo shut to start the music. Play, pause, fast-forward and rewind controls work the way they do on a real deck. The sound design follows the real hardware, because the developer recorded the mechanical clicks and tape noises from an actual portable cassette player. Loading a tape and pressing a button each make a physical sound. Music comes from Apple Music or from music files stored on the device. Apple built the iPhone Duo with a 7.6-inch inner display that opens like a book and a 5.4-inch outer display, and apps can respond as the hinge opens and closes. The iPhone Duo responds to whether the phone is closed, flat, half folded like a laptop or propped open like a tent, and Deck-Man uses the two ends of that range, with the phone open for browsing and closed for listening.
Deck-Man costs $4.99 once, with no ads or subscription
Deck-Man is sold as a one-time purchase, and the developer lists no ads, no upsells, no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. The App Store privacy label says the app collects no data. The cassette idea fits a pattern that runs through the best iPhone Duo apps so far. MoneyCoach is a leather wallet that opens with the hinge, pico cam slides each photo out like a Polaroid, and Toastie has you close the phone to toast a sandwich. At $4.99, Deck-Man costs the same as the TypeDraw notebook app, and it sits above Tiny Computers at $3.99 and Toastie at $2.99. Deck-Man is a 57.4 MB download that needs iOS 26.0 or later. Family Sharing covers up to six people.
Deck-Man is out now! Excited for people to not only try out the app on iPhone Duo but also on their iPads and other phones.
