Emergency SOS via satellite might launch in the UK with the release of the new iOS 16.2 update

As per the report, emergency services personnel in the UK have been notified that calls from the Emergency SOS via satellite would be routed to local emergency services facilities starting from December 13.

It is specualted that Apple might launch the safety feature in new regions with the release of the new iOS 16.2 update.

Apple did not provide a specific date, but the December 13 date we’ve heard from the UK source makes sense. It is not clear if the expansion will also include France, Germany, and Ireland, but it seems likely, and this could also be the day we see iOS 16.2 launch.

Recently, a man stranded in Alaska used Emergency SOS via satellite to contact emergency services which save his life in freezing cold weather in the Bucolic area.

The latest iPhone 14 series offers Emergency SOS via satellite safety feature for users to contact emergency service from areas with no Wi-Fi and Cellular coverage. Integration with the Find My app, users can also share their location with their trusted contacts via satellite.

To establish a satellite connection, users need to be outdoors with a direct view of the sky and the horizon and hold their smartphones naturally in their hands. Trees, hills, mountains, and other tall structures can obstruct the connection.

Once you’re connected, your iPhone starts a text conversation with emergency responders by sharing critical information like your Medical ID and emergency contact information (if you have set them up), the emergency questionnaire answers, your location (including elevation), and remaining battery life for your iPhone. – Apple
