If autocorrect or predictive text stops working on iOS 27, the cause is usually a keyboard setting or a stuck keyboard process and not a problem with your iPhone. The fixes below cover a missing suggestion bar and autocorrect that keeps changing words the wrong way.
The steps below work on any iPhone that runs iOS 27 and take a few minutes. Start at the top, because the first two are the quickest.
Check That Auto-Correction and Predictive Are Turned On
Open Settings > General > Keyboard and look at the switches for Auto-Correction and Predictive. Auto-Correction is on by default, so a switch that is off usually means something changed it.
If the gray inline suggestions that finish your words are the thing that is missing, the same screen has a separate switch for inline predictions.
Turn Auto-Correction and Predictive Off and Back On
Refreshing the switches can wake up a keyboard that stopped responding.
- Open Settings > General > Keyboard.
- Turn off Auto-Correction.
- Turn off Predictive.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Turn both switches back on.
Then open Notes or Messages and check whether suggestions are back.
Make Sure Your Keyboard Language Supports Predictive Text
Predictive text only works for some languages. Open Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards and check which keyboards you have added, since a keyboard for an unsupported language will not show predictions.
Check Text Replacement When Wrong Words Keep Appearing
If autocorrect works but keeps swapping in the wrong word, open Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement and delete any entries you do not recognize.
To stop a word from being changed, tap the plus button, type the word in the Phrase field, and leave the Shortcut field blank. You can also tap an underlined word right after autocorrect changes it and pick the original from the menu.
Restart Your iPhone and Install the Latest iOS 27 Update
Restart your iPhone first, since that reloads the keyboard services. Then go to Settings > General > Software Update and install anything that is waiting, including iOS 27.0.1.

Reset the Keyboard Dictionary as a Last Resort
If autocorrect still behaves oddly, resetting the keyboard dictionary clears learned words that may have become corrupted.
- Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
- Tap Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
- Enter your passcode to confirm.
This removes every custom word your iPhone has learned, so you will need to teach it names, slang, and abbreviations again.
