iOS 27 Is Out, But Siri AI Still Needs a Waitlist Signup

iOS 27 is rolling out to iPhones this week, but plenty of people who just updated are opening Settings and finding no trace of the new Siri app or the smarter voice assistant Apple demoed on stage. That is because Siri AI does not turn on automatically. You have to join a waitlist first.

Siri AI Only Runs on iPhone 15 Pro and Newer

Apple Intelligence compatibility is the dividing line here. If your iPhone cannot run Apple Intelligence, it cannot run Siri AI, regardless of whether iOS 27 installed cleanly.

Signing Up Takes Four Taps in Settings

Getting on the waitlist does not require an Apple ID form or a separate app download. It happens straight from the Settings app.

• Open the Settings app on your iPhone
• Tap on the Siri menu
• Tap Try Siri AI (Beta)
• Follow the on-screen prompts

Wait Times Range From Minutes to Several Days

There is no fixed timeline for how long the waitlist takes. Some users get access within a few minutes of signing up, while others report waiting hours or even days before their iPhone unlocks the feature. You will receive a notification on your iPhone once access is granted, and the Siri app will automatically appear on your device at that point.

Siri AI Adds Screen Awareness and ChatGPT Style Answers

Classic Siri has always handled basic requests like setting a timer or checking the weather, but it has struggled with anything more complex for years. Siri AI is built to fix that gap and behaves closer to a ChatGPT style assistant that can answer most questions directly, pull from your personal information stored on the iPhone, read what is currently on your screen, and take actions inside apps that support it.

Once it is active, there are three ways to bring it up:

• Swipe down on the iPhone’s Dynamic Island
• Press and hold the iPhone’s side button
• Open the dedicated Siri app directly

Voice Customization Is Limited to Newer iPhones

A handful of models also let you adjust Siri AI’s pace and expressivity, changing how fast and how animated the voice sounds when it responds.

Siri AI Only Speaks English Until October

Language support is narrow at launch. Apple has said French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish are coming in October, likely tied to the iOS 27.1 release.

Apple has also confirmed Siri AI carries unspecified daily usage limits, with expanded access promised for select iCloud+ plans down the line. In the European Union, Siri AI is not available at all on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or watchOS 27, as Apple remains in a regulatory dispute with the European Commission.

Apple still classifies Siri AI as a beta feature, even though iOS 27 itself has already left beta behind.
