iPhone 7 features: 5 colors, water resistance, A10 chip, true tone display and more

KGI Securities, a financial services group in the Asia-Pacific, has published an iPhone 7 specifications report just a few days ahead of Apple’s September 7th launch event. In the report, KGI claims that the new iPhone 7 models will have the same iPhone 6 design with 5 new color options, dual-core A10 SoC, waterproofing, Force Touch sensors and more. The report is not a lot different than the already leaked features for iPhone 7, however, it does authenticate them and adds some insight on what to expect from the next version of Apple’s most profitable product.

Processor

KGI reports, like other sources, that a new A10 chip by TSMC will power the new iPhone 7. The A10 chip will have a maximum clock speed of 2.5 GHz and is expected to deliver better and faster performance than the A9 chip in iPhone 6s.

Display

Apple will bring the iPad Pro’s display tech to iPhone 7 which includes wide color gamut support and True Tone technology.

Camera

The report re-affirms that both models of the upcoming iPhone 7 will have new cameras with 12-megapixel sensors and flash. The new flash will have 2 additional LEDs, for a total of 4, to capture better photos in low-light environments thanks.

Only the iPhone 7 plus will have the new dual lens camera with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. It will support optical zoom and light field camera functionality, designed to capture detailed and sharper photographs.

RAM and Memory

Apple will offer 32GB as the minimum and 256GB as the maximum storage space. This means we will finally bid farewell to 16GB storage models. The new storage choices will be 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB.

The amount of RAM will also be different for iPhone 7 and 7 plus models. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will have 2GB RAM while the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 plus will have 3GB RAM.

EarPods

Lightning EarPods and a Lightning adapter are expected to ship with every new iPhone 7 model. The report states that the space of the 3.5mm headphone jack will be used to place new sensors for improved Force Touch. Apple will also introduce a new internal amplifier to boost iPhone 7’s receiver’s sound to finally bring stereo output to the smartphone.

Water resistance and Laser PSC

The iPhone 7 models will be water resistant with an IPX7 rating, which will enable them to be submerged in water with a depth of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Apple will switch from LED to a laser based proximity sensor for faster response times and longer distance recognition, which might enable the phones to recognize hand gestures.

Color options

The reports also provide more information on iPhone 7’s colors. Apple is likely to abandon the Space Gray color option and will instead make the new models available in two color variations of black; dark black and glossy piano black. According to both sources, the new color line-up will be Silver, Rose Gold, Gold, Space Black, and Piano Black.

KGI reports are written based on information from Apple’s Asian supply chain, so they have an accurate track record. iPhone 7 is shaping up to be a bigger release than previously expected which makes things more interesting for potential buyers.

Apple’s media event is on 7th September, 10 am (PT). Stay tuned for the latest updates
