Apple has released macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta 4 to registered developers. The build lands about a week after macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta 3, and it is the fourth test version of an update that skipped macOS 27.1 entirely.
Fourth betas of iOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2 went out the same day. Developers can install the new Mac build now, and the public release is still a few weeks away.
macOS Golden Gate 27.2 adds Siri AI languages and a cleaner volume slider
Siri AI in new languages is the main reason to care about this update. macOS Golden Gate reached the public on September 14 with Siri AI in English only. Beta 1 then added French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, which Apple had said would arrive in October.
The other visible change is the redesign of the volume and brightness sliders that debuted in beta 2. The new sliders use a segmented bar instead of a plain line, so each key press shows up as a visible step. A single larger icon on the left replaces the pair of icons at either end, and the slider appears under the matching menu bar icon.
Control Center keeps its old sliders, so the new look only appears when you adjust volume or brightness with the keyboard keys.
No new features have been reported in beta 4 so far. Earlier builds were more revealing, including a touchscreen MacBook Pro hint in beta 3. macOS Golden Gate 27.2 is expected to land just after new MacBooks are expected to be announced.
Registered developers can install the beta from System Settings
The update is available to anyone with a registered developer account. On a Mac that is already enrolled, the steps take about a minute before the download starts.
- Open System Settings and click General.
- Select Software Update.
- Opt into the macOS Golden Gate betas, then install the update.
As with every beta, put it on a secondary Mac or a separate APFS volume instead of the Mac you rely on for work. Public beta testers have been receiving matching builds a short while after each developer release.
