Apple Seeds macOS Golden Gate 27.2 Release Candidate

Apple has seeded the macOS Golden Gate 27.2 release candidate to registered developers. It arrives a week after macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta 4 and is the build Apple plans to ship publicly unless testers find a last-minute problem.

Apple skipped macOS 27.1 and went straight from macOS Golden Gate 27 to macOS Golden Gate 27.2, so this is the first major update since the 27.0.1 bug fix release. It follows macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta 4, which carried build 26B5112a.

Apple also seeded release candidates across its other platforms today

iOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 all reached release candidate status on the same day. Apple also seeded second release candidates of macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 last week, so Mac owners on older releases have updates coming as well.

A release candidate is meant to be the final code. Apple only issues another one if testers hit a serious bug, which means the build you install today should match what ships to everyone.

Siri AI is the headline addition. macOS Golden Gate launched on September 14 with Siri AI in English only, and macOS Golden Gate 27.2 adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple had promised the new languages for October, and anyone working in one of them can test Siri AI on a Mac today.

The second visible change is the redesign of the volume and brightness sliders. They use a segmented bar instead of a plain line, so every key press shows up as a visible step. Control Center keeps the old sliders, which means the new look only appears when you use the keyboard keys.

Earlier betas added touch-specific gesture code in Safari, Notes, Photos and Quick Look, which is why people connect macOS Golden Gate 27.2 to a touchscreen Mac. Apple has not said what the code is for.

Apple is reportedly planning to launch 14-inch and 16-inch OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro models on or around Tuesday, October 27, with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple has not announced them.

How to install the macOS Golden Gate 27.2 release candidate

Registered developers can install the release candidate from System Settings. Back up your Mac first, since this is still pre-release software.

  • Open System Settings and go to General, then Software Update.
  • Click the info icon next to Beta Updates.
  • Choose macOS Developer Golden Gate Beta from the dropdown and click Done.
  • Install the update when it appears.

Apple is expected to release macOS Golden Gate 27.2 to everyone toward the end of October.
