Niantic recently announced its official Pokémon GO New Year event. This event will bring new avatar items, bonuses, and a wide variety of new and old costumed Pokémonto the game.
In addition to all the new avatar items and bonuses, this year’s event will also include themes according to different regions around the Pokémon world, starting with the Unova region.
Pokémon GO New Year’s event announced with new Pokémon, battles, bonuses, and more
Starting on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 1 p.m. PST (GMT -8), there will be new items available for players in the in-app shop. Exclusive 2021 Glasses and a New Year’s Party Hat will be available for users to equip before the commencement of the event
During this New Year’s event, users will find bonuses like 2x Hatch Candy for Pokémon eggs and 2x Hatch Stardust for Pokémon eggs. This event will also cut Hatch Distance in half, meaning eggs will hatch 2x faster when placed in an incubator.
After the event will commence, there will be a Field Research reward encounter with Eevee wearing a party hat. While the whole point of Pokémon GO is to catch Pokémon, it is important to note that this Eevee will not be able to evolve.
There will also be a set of Party Hat Pokémon appearing in one-star raids, including Raticate, Wobuffet, and Wurmple. Players will also find some slightly standard looking Pokemon like Klink and Espurr.
This year’s event will be the best time to catch Shiny Pokemon. Shiny Pokémon will appear in the Party Hat Pokemon Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu, as well as New Year’s Glasses Slowpoke and Slowbro. Shiny Wynaut will be made available in 2km Eggs.
The New Year’s event will begin on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at 10 p.m. local time and it will last until January 4, 2021, at 10 p.m. local time.
