New 13-inch MacBook Pro will not be announced during WWDC 22, launch expected later this year

Over the past few weeks, reports about a refreshed MacBook Air being announced at Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference became a lot more frequent. The same cannot be said for the MacBook Pro. A new report today confirmed that the chances of a refreshed 13-inch MacBook Pro being announced at WWDC are slim to none. The laptop is expected to be released later in 2022.

2021 MacBook Pro

Refreshed MacBook Pro will not be announced alongside new MacBook Air tomorrow at WWDC

WWDC 2022 is scheduled to kick off tomorrow. While Apple’s next-generation software updates are going to be the highlight of the keynote, there has been some talk about the tech giant announcing new hardware. An M2 MacBook Air is the most likely announcement however consumers will have to wait for a few more months to get their hands on an M2 MacBook Pro.

While a new 13-inch MacBook Pro was initially expected to be announced along with other hardware, it will not happen during WWDC, according to the latest edition of the “Power On” newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

A faster 13-inch MacBook Pro had also been planned to launch around the same time as the new Air, but those same lockdowns in China could have thrown off that part of the roadmap as well. When that machine does launch, expect it to look the same as the current 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2020 sans the Touch Bar.

The journalist says the ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns in China have impacted Apple’s suppliers and that is why a refreshed MacBook Pro will not be announced tomorrow. On the design of the upcoming Pro laptop, Gurman says it will feature the same design as the current 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2020, just without the Touch Bar.

The HDMI port and card reader slot are likely to be reserved for the Pro variants. It will be available In the following colorways: space gray, silver, dark blue, and light gold.

Apple is widely expected to debut iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9 at WWDC 2022 which will kick off at 10 a.m. PT (10: 30 p.m. IST). on Monday, June 6.
