Apple Fitness+ Gym Strength is now in beta, with four-week workout plans built around your goals, schedule and equipment. Each following week adapts to the reps and weight you log.
Gym Strength needs iOS 27.3 on iPhone or iPadOS 27.3 on iPad. Earlier Fitness+ programs, like the recent 3 week Pilates program, run on a prebuilt schedule. Gym Strength builds the plan from your strength goals, experience and equipment instead.
Apple Fitness+ Gym Strength adjusts each week to your lifting
You start by choosing your workout days and the body areas you want to focus on. Each workout has either five exercises, which Apple estimates at 20 to 30 minutes, or seven exercises for about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your pace.
Every workout recommends exercises, reps, sets and how much weight to lift. Short video demonstrations from Fitness+ trainers show each exercise, and you can expand them to see the movement from three angles.
If a machine is taken, you can swap equipment or pick an alternative exercise with a similar movement and body focus. You can also add sets or skip exercises, and you move through the workout at your own pace.
Dumbbells are the minimum equipment
Apple says Gym Strength has more than 350 exercises across over 30 types of strength equipment, from dumbbells and kettlebells to cable machines and barbells. Plans account for what you have available, so it works in a commercial gym or a home gym with dumbbells.
An Apple Watch running watchOS 27.3 is optional. It lets you view exercises and log reps and weight from your wrist while tracking heart rate and calories burned.
Gym Strength also adds Training Note, an optional feature powered by Apple Intelligence. It previews workouts, explains progression and flags milestones, and it needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with the language set to English.
Gym Strength is included in Fitness+
There is no extra charge for Gym Strength. The Fitness+ subscription costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year in the United States, with one month free for new subscribers and three months free with an eligible device purchase.
Up to five family members can share one subscription. Of the Apple One plans, only the $39.95 per month Apple One Premier plan includes Fitness+. The Fitness+ library has 12 workout types, from Strength and HIIT to Yoga and Pilates.
