Everything New in iOS 27.3 Beta 1 – Safari Vertical Tabs and iPhone Duo Reachability

The iOS 27.3 beta 1 lets Siri AI take actions in 15 Apple apps, and it gives the iPhone Duo a sideways version of Reachability. Any app can also plug into Siri AI through a new Developer Preview, though App Store submission for those features only opens in the spring.

Apple seeded the beta to developers on November 3, and iOS 27.3 is set for a public release in December. The beta also brings back the redesigned Health app and adds Safari vertical tabs.

The iOS 27.3 beta gives Siri AI actions in 15 Apple apps

Siri AI can now act in Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. It can also find a coffee shop you visited last week or archive files you have not opened in over a year. You can ask Siri AI what it can do in each app.

Siri AI needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone set to English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish. Siri AI language support still lacks Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese, and Siri AI is unavailable in the EU.

Messages, Mail and Notes

  • You can have Siri AI schedule an iMessage to send later, edit or unsend a message and reply with an emoji reaction.
  • Mail now handles unsubscribing from mailing lists and undoing a message you just sent.
  • Notes can carry bold, italic and rich text formatting, and Siri AI can organize your Notes folders.

Photos, Music and Journal

  • Photos can be favorited, rotated and edited by voice, and people and pets can be renamed.
  • A request such as songs for a day at the beach becomes a playlist in Music that you can save to your library.
  • Journal entries can be created as text or recorded as audio.

Calendar, Reminders, Safari, Files and Weather

  • Calendar events can include invitees, a location and a video call link.
  • Reminders can be created as urgent.
  • In Safari, Siri AI can manage tabs by creating groups from a list of URLs, sorting them and closing duplicates, and it can clear history and delete Reading List items.
  • Files can be read, created and renamed by voice, and Siri AI can organize items by type and send them to the trash.
  • Weather locations can be added by voice, and weather notifications can be controlled.

Third-party developers get the same access through the Siri AI Developer Preview, where apps bring their content and actions into Siri AI with App Intents. A new skills feature lets a developer combine several actions into one request, and Apple says the features first ship to customers in a few months.

iPhone Duo Reachability moves the screen sideways

Reachability on the iPhone Duo shifts content to the left or right instead of down. Once it is turned on in Accessibility settings, a short swipe toward the side of the screen moves everything across, which brings the far edge within reach of one hand.

Reachability on other iPhones lowers the top half of the screen with a swipe down on the bottom edge. The iPhone Duo shipped without the feature, and Apple had said it would come later this year.

StandBy on the standard iPhone borrows the iPhone Duo clock faces

StandBy now follows the iPhone Duo StandBy faces, with digital and analog clocks that you can set up in several configurations and swipe between. Colors and complications are adjustable in the same way as Apple Watch faces.

Other changes in the beta

Registered developers can install the developer beta from Settings, General, Software Update.
