Apple’s AirPods dominated headphones market in the U.S. in 2021

A new survey conducted by Statista reveals Apple’s AirPods were consumers’ top choice in the U.S. in 2021. Launched in 2016, Apple’s own wireless headphone AirPods models have been used by 34.4% of consumers in the past five years. 

Currently, the tech giant offers AirPods (2nd and 3rd generation), AirPods Pro, and AirPod Max wireless headphones which support advanced features like Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, support Spatial Audio, are sweat and water-resistant, and more. Recently, the company expanded Find My Network support to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max for users to easily locate their headphones; EarPods, charging case, or both.

34.4% of consumers in the U.S. own Apple’s AirPods and 15.3% own Apple-owned Beats headphones in 2021

The survey questioned 4,220 participants, aged 18-64, to estimate the share of U.S. respondents using headphones from leading brands in 2021 revealed that consumers’ top two choices for headphones are Apple.  

Apple’s AirPods series headphone models were owned by 34.4% of consumers and Beats by Dr.Dre headphone models were owned by 15.3% of consumers. Thus, the tech giant is consumers’ first and second most popular choice in the United States. 

According to Statista’s Global Consumer Survey, Apple is the most popular headphone brand in the U.S. by a considerable distance. Having asked 4,220 U.S. adults about their personal headphones, Statista found that 34.4 percent of respondents used one of Apple’s products, followed by Apple-owned Beats in second position at 15.3 percent.

Apple acquired Beats in 2014 and In addition to updating the AirPods lineup, the tech company has also upgraded Beats headphones. Recently, the new Beats Fit Pro and Beats Studio Buds were launched with an in-the-ear design and offer features like Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode like AirPods Pro. 

Another report by Canalys states that AirPods and Beats dominated the headphones market with a 25% share, in spite of experiencing a 33.7% drop in shipments in Q3, 2021 because of a drop in demand. 

For Q1, 2022, Apple’s wearables and home accessories accounted for $14.7 billion out of $124 billion earnings, and at the quarter’s earnings call, CEO Tim Cook shared that;
