Battlefleet Duo Turns the iPhone Duo into a Tabletop Naval Battle Game

Battlefleet Duo is a free naval board game for the iPhone Duo where a half-folded phone puts your fleet on the lower screen and the enemy’s waters upright in front of you. The game also adapts to other iPhones and iPads, and it requires iOS 27.0 or later.

Developer Brian Corrieri, who also made the PianoFold rhythm game, released Battlefleet Duo on the App Store. The game’s camera and layout adjust as you fold the phone, which puts it among the iPhone Duo apps built around the hinge.

You place five ships on a 10 by 10 grid in secret, then take turns firing at the enemy’s waters until one fleet sinks. The standard rules follow the original board game.

Tabletop mode shows your fleet on the lower screen with the enemy’s waters standing upright in front of you. Full screen mode uses 3D graphics and effects, and Classic mode swaps the ocean for a plastic board and pegs.

Shots fly from the firing ship, hits show fire and smoke and sunk ships go under the waves. Battles can take place in daylight, at dusk or at night, with storms, rain and lightning.

Enhanced rules give each ship a weapon and the game offers four ways to play

Enhanced rules give each ship its own weapon. The air strike hits three squares in a line, the torpedo runs down a column to the first hull, the star shell gathers intelligence and the missile hits one square per turn. You keep a weapon only while its ship stays afloat.

You can play alone against the computer on Easy, Medium or Legend, face to face on two devices over a local network, or pass one device back and forth. Online battles run through Game Center invites or matchmaking, and unfinished battles can be resumed later.

Version 1.0.2 made online battles fairer. If an opponent forfeits or runs out of time, you get full credit for the win, including XP and order progress, and a player down to one damaged ship in a Game Center battle now has five minutes to fire instead of a day.

Two battles a day are free and one purchase removes the limit

The game gives you two free battles per day, and a one-time purchase unlocks unlimited battles with no subscription. Optional sovereign packs buy cosmetic customization, and the Shipyard offers alternative ship designs, paint schemes, shot effects and custom grid markers.

Daily and weekly orders earn sovereigns, the in-game currency, and you rise in rank from Cadet to Admiral and beyond. Your progress syncs across devices through iCloud with the same Apple Account.

Battlefleet Duo is a 15.2 MB download that requires iOS 27.0 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 27.0 or later on iPad. The game is in English, French and German and carries a 9+ age rating for infrequent cartoon or fantasy violence, contests and guns or other weapons.
