New 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models might be launching at WWDC 2021 event next month, much earlier than previously rumored. As per Jon Prosser, who has a reliable track record with Apple leaks, the company will launch redesigned MacBook Pro models
New MacBook Pro models expected at WWDC
Apart from confirmation that a new MacBook Pro is coming, Jon Prosser has not shared any other information yet. However, from previous rumors, we know that Apple is planning its biggest redesign for MacBook since it launched the 2016 MacBook Pro. The new models will not feature a Touch Bar and will bring back the HDMI port and SD card reader slot. It will also feature the beloved MagSafe charging port, as well as USB-4 Thunderbolt ports.
In terms of design, the new MacBook Pro will take inspiration from iPhone 12 and iPad Pro’s flat design language with curved display edges and thin bezels. It is also expected to feature mini-LED which would make it the biggest jump in terms of display technology on a Mac in a long time.
The new MacBook Pro models will be powered by an M1X chip which will be faster than the M1 chip, feature more Thunderbolt channels, more GPU and GPU cores, and greater power draw. This chip will also be used in a high-end Mac mini and iMac. Bloomberg had reported that the MacBook Pro will feature a 10-core chip and 32-core graphics.
Although new MacBook Pro models have previously been rumored to launch before the end of 2021, Jon’s tweet suggests that we might see them much earlier than expected. So far, Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo have not suggested if Apple would be pulling back the launch timeline. It is also rare for Apple to announce new hardware at WDDC as the primary focus is usually on developers.
