Apple has revealed the lineup for the 31st Worldwide Developers Conference which will be the biggest one to date due to the company’s major software updates. The all-online developer’s conference will take place from June 22 till June 26.
In March, Apple announced that WWDC 2020 would be held online as a means to take precautions and practice social distancing because of COVID-19. Many other tech companies have shifted their in-person conferences and events to an all-online platform due to global COVID-19 outbreaks.
The event will feature online sessions on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS for developers worldwide. All developers will have access to the conference through the Apple Developer app, YouTube, and the company’s developer website. Senior Vice President Luca Maestri commented:
“WWDC20 will be our biggest yet, bringing together our global developer community of more than 23 million in an unprecedented way for a week in June to learn about the future of the company’s platforms.”
Apple’s line-up for WWDC 2020
Almost a month ahead of the event, the company has announced the full schedule for the program. Here is the schedule for this year’s activities at Apple Park:
1. Special Event Keynote (June 22, 10 AM PDT)
As per the company’s usual practices, the event will begin with a special keynote speech featuring several keynote speakers along with CEO Tim Cook. It will stream directly from Apple Park and will be available to stream on various platforms, including YouTube. There will also be a playback session after the live-stream ends.
2. Platforms State of the Union (June 22, 2 PM PDT)
Following the special keynote, Apple will hold its Platforms State of the Union address which will take place at 2 p.m. PT. The event will be available for on-demand playback as well.
3. 100+ Engineering Sessions (June 23 – June 26)
Developers will have the chance to learn about building next-generation apps with more than a hundred engineering sessions held by the company’s engineers. Videos for these sessions will be posted at 10 AM PDT each day and will be available on all previously mentioned platforms.
4. All-New Developer Forums (June 18)
Developer forums will connect the community with 1,000 engineers from Apple. They will engage in technical discussions and answer questions raised by developers. Developer program members will post their questions on the forum and learn from experts within the forum.
5. 1-on-1 Developer Labs (June 23 – June 26)
Developers will also be able to request an interview with engineers to gain one-on-one guidance and details for implementing new features in the future. The 1-on-1 developer labs will be open to Developer program members only.
Apple is expected to announce several new updates including iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, watchOS 7, macOS 10.16, and more. Rumors for hardware announcements have also circulated in the past, suggesting that the company will also announce a redesigned iMac and transition to ARM chips.
