iOS 16.1.2 released with improved crash detection and carrier compatibility

Apple has released iOS 16.1.2 for all compatible iPhone models. The update features crash detection optimizations and improvements for compatibility with wireless carriers. This release also includes security updates.

The update is a minor one and is available as an over-the-air software update for iPhones. Apple has not released a corresponding iPadOS update with this release.

Apple’s release notes mention two enhancements and security updates. The update improves compatibility with wireless carriers, however, it is unclear which carriers does this change impact. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models also receive crash detection optimizations. At the time of writing, Apple has yet to post details on the security updates in this release. We will update this post once Apple shares information.

To update your iPhone to iOS 16.1.2, go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap on the download and install button. Make sure that your iPhone has at least 50% battery charge and is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, you can also download iOS 16.1.2 IPSW firmware files to manually upgrade your iPhone. 

Apple is currently beta testing iOS 16.2 with developers and public beta testers. The update is expected to release in mid-December with new changes and improvements including a new Medications widget for the Lock Screen, ‘Custom Accessibility Mode’Dynamic Island that shrinks to display signal and WiFi bars when playing music, Sleep widgets for the Lock Screen, more customization options for Alway-On display on iPhone 14 Pro models, Live Activities with more frequent updatesFreeform, and more.
