We had been hearing rumors since a long time that Apple will bring FaceTime video calling to almost every device they make and today in their “Back to Mac” event Apple has announced FaceTime for OS X. That raises the FaceTime compatible devices count to 3 – iPhone, iPod Touch and Macs. Hopefully, next will be iPad 2.
It was expected that FaceTime would be integrated with the iChat app but OS X has a totally different app for FaceTime calling. You can select your contacts from your address book and then make calls to people on other Macs, iPhone 4s or iPod Touches. FaceTime for Mac beta is available for download now.
