Apple lists iPad mini 3 as an obsolete product

Launched in 2014, the iPad mini 3 is now listed as an obsolete product after eight years. This means the iPad mini 3 is no longer eligible for repairs by Apple-authorized service providers, worldwide.

In February 2021, Apple added iPhone 6 Plus to the list of vintage products and the iPad 4 to the list of obsolete products. In December 2022, it was reported that Apple had notified service providers that all iPad Mini 3 models, Wi-Fi and Cellular, would be listed as obsolete.

Is iPad mini 3 eligible for Apple-authorized repair service? 

The products which the tech giant has stopped distributing for sale over 5 years but under 7 years as vintage. The products which the company stopped distributing for sale more than 7 years ago are considered obsolete and are not eligible for Apple-authorized service.

Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago. Monster-branded Beats products are considered obsolete regardless of when they were purchased.

Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, with the sole exception of Mac laptops that are eligible for an additional battery-only repair period. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products.

In 2014, Apple debuted the iPad Mini 3 along with iPad Air 2. Powered by an A7 Bionic chip built on a 28nm process, the third-generation entry-level iPad features a 7.9-inch display, fingerprint sensor for Touch ID authentication, 5MP main camera and 1.2MP front camera, and more. Starting from $399, the tablet was available in Wi-Fi and Cellular option and came in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options.
