Apple seeds iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 beta 3 to developers

Apple has released iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 beta 3 to developers. The new update comes two weeks after beta 2 was released with 200 new emojis, Music app updates, and more.

The first iOS 14.5 beta was released a month ago with support for 5G in dual SIM mode, Face ID unlock with a mask on using Apple Watch, app tracking transparency controls, support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X controllers, and more. Ever since then, developers have found a lot of unannounced and under-the-hood changes in iOS 14.5, which make it a major udpate.

iOS 14.5 beta 3 is a relatively minor update, less than 500MB in size for most devices. So far, the only change that has been discovered is in the Find My app, which now shows a new “Items” tab. Previously, this “Items” tab was accessible using a URL scheme in Safari on iPhone.

The addition of this new tab signals towards an imminent launch of AirTags or other supported accessories. However, as long as AirTags have been delated, we would not be surprised if Apple removes the “Items” tab again in the next beta or the final iOS 14.5 release.

If you already have an iOS 14.5 beta installed on your iPhone or iPad, make sure to go to Settings > General > Software Update to get the new version.

Apart from the aforementioned single change in beta 3, iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 are gearing up to be huge updates. Here is everything new discovered so far in iOS 14.5 beta:
