Apple TV+ orders comedy series ‘Platonic’ starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen and renews Ted Lasso for season 3

Apple TV+ has been making major strides in producing quality shows this year, and it is not stopping anytime time. The streaming service has just ordered a new comedy series ‘Platonic’ starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen and has recently renewed comedy-hit Ted Lasso for season 3.

Apple TV+ is the Cupertino tech giant’s video streaming service that offers a wide variety of original talk shows, drama series, kids shows, movies, and more. Since its launch, the streaming service has won 26 awards and accolades and has earned 107 awards nominations.

Apple TV+ orders comedy series ‘Platonic’

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne will reunite on a new comedy series titled Platonic, created and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Apple has announced. The official description of the 10-episode, half-hour comedy series reads:

“A pair of former best friends who met in their youth (played by Byrne and Rogen) reconnect as adults and try to mend the rift that led to their falling out. As their friendship becomes more consuming, it destabilizes their lives and causes them to reevaluate their choices.”

In addition to co-writing with Delbanco, Stoller will also direct Platonic. Rogen and Byrne will serve as executive producers on Platonic, alongside Conor Welch, Stoller’s producing partner at his Stoller Global Solutions. Platonic will be a production of Sony Pictures Television, where Stoller has an overall deal.

An official release date for the series has yet to be announced.

Comedy hit Ted Lasso renewed for season 3

The hit Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso was officially renewed for season two back in August, and now Apple has officially given the series an early renewal for a third season.

The sports comedy is based on the coaching experience of a mediocre college football coach from Kansas who moves to England to coach a professional soccer team. Actor Jason Sudeikis plays the lead role of Ted Lasso.

According to some stats obtained by Deadline, Ted Lasso has grown the streaming service’s viewership by over 600% since it debuted by breaking audience records and drawing 25% new viewers to the service since its August 14 launch:

“It has broken audience records for Apple TV+, ranking as the No. 1 comedy each week, drawing 25% new viewers to the service since its August 14 launch. according to the streamer. The pop culture phenom has grown its viewership more than 600%, fueled by binge watchers, setting new records for completion and engagement worldwide.”

For $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial,  Apple TV+ is available on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple TV via the Apple TV app. It is also compatible with selected Samsung and LG smart TVs, Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV, and tv.apple.com.
