Apple recently unveiled iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro with the powerful new A15 chip, battery life enhancements, improved camera systems storage bumps, and more. Here are some additional tidbits for the lineup including RAM amounts, battery percentage, and packaging changes.
Some tidbits about Apple’s latest flagship iPhone lineup
No more plastic wrap around the retail box
In addition to its commitment to being carbon neutral by 2030, Apple is going a step further with iPhone 13. The retail packaging for this year’s lineup has been redesigned to eliminate the plastic wrap on the outside. The tech giant says this change should help eliminate 600 metric tons of plastic.
Our stores, offices, data centers, and operations are already carbon neutral. By 2030 our products — and your carbon footprint from using them — will be, too. This year we eliminated the plastic wrap around the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro boxes, saving 600 metric tons of plastic. And our established final assembly sites now send zero waste to landfills.
This is not the first time Apple has modified its packaging in an effort to eliminate unnecessary waste. In 2020, the company announced its decision to exclude accessories from its iPhone retail box, starting with iPhone 12. Apple cited environmental reasons for its move which is aimed at reducing carbon emissions by shipping more iPhone units due to slimmer packaging. According to the tech giant, most users already have EarPods and power adapters and the decision will prevent a large number of such accessories from ending up in landfills.
Still no battery percentage in the status bar
Despite the iPhone 13 lineup featuring a notch that is 20% smaller than iPhone 12 and older models, Apple still has not added the battery percentage indicator back to the status bar. So, users still have to access it by swiping down from the upper-right corner and opening Contol Center.
RAM amounts
As spotted by MacRumors, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini feature 4GB of RAM while iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max feature 6GB of RAM. These RAM amounts are the same that Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup featured last year.
Pre-orders for the lineup open on Friday, September 17 at apple.com, while general availability will be from Friday, September 24.
