watchOS 8.5.1 released with security updates and bug fixes

Apple has released watchOS 8.5.1 for Apple Watch Series 3 and later models. This minor update features security updates and bug fixes.

What’s new in watchOS 8.5.1?

watchOS 8.5.1 features undisclosed bug fixes and security updates. Apple has not disclosed details of either of these changes in this release.

The release notes simply say the following:

watchOS 8.5.1 includes security updates and bug fixes for your Apple Watch.

Apple had previously released watchOS 8.5, which was a major update and brought support for authorizing Apple TV purchases and subscriptions, COVID-19 vaccination cards in the Wallet app which lets users add vaccination records, test results, and recovery history. The update also included improved irregular rhythm notifications, which feature improved detection for arterial fibrillation.

Before watchOS 8.5, Apple released watchOS 8.3 with Apple Music Voice Plan, ECG support for China, App Privacy Report, and Assistive Touch support for older Apple Watch models.

How to install watchOS 8.5.1

To download and install watchOS 8.5.1, place your Apple Watch on its wireless charger and ensure that it has more than 50% battery. Go to the Watch app on your iPhone and go to General > Software Update. When the new update appears, start the installation process. Keep your devices connected to a stable Wi-Fi network during the update process, and in close proximity to each other.
