Apple TV+ originals earn 18 Emmy nominations

Apple TV+ original shows have earned 18 Emmy nominations this year. The company announced the nominations by updating the apple.com homepage to display the titles up for an award in various categories. The 72 Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 20 and hosted by renowned comedy and anchor, Jimmy Kimmel.

The award show celebrates excellence in national primetime television. These nominations place another feather in Apple’s video streaming service’s hat of pride. Just 9 months after launching, the service has already earned a reputation in the market with a diverse collection of original content. Recently, Peanuts in Space and Ghostwriters won two Emmy awards in the Kids category.

With the tag line, ” We are just getting started”, Apple announced the shows and the nomination categories of 6 original series which are as the following:

The Morning Show

Starring Jennifer Aniston, Resse Witherspoon, and Steve Carell, this drama series showcasing the conflicts and struggles of the morning show hosts. The show has won 8 nominations;

  • Outstanding Lead Actress – Jennifer Aniston
  • Outstanding Lead Actor – Steve Carell
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor – Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass
  • Outstanding Guest Actor – Martin Short
  • Outstanding Director – Mimi Leder

Defending Jacob

Based on a 2012 New York Times best-selling novel, this thriller drama series stars Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell, and others. The series is up for two Emmy nominations in the following categories:

The Elephant Queen

Encapsulating love, courage, loyalty, and struggle to survive in the African savanna, this movie is based on the world’s majestic creature, the elephants. Previously, The Elephant Queen has won the Cinema for Peace International Green Film Award. This year it is nominated for:

  • Outstanding Narrator – Chiwetel Ejiofor

The Cupertino company has been focusing on improving its services, in particular, video streaming service has been regularly updated with new original content to make a name for its self in this competitive market, against Netflix and Amazon Prime.
